EZGİ NİLAY BEYİŞ'S ANALYSIS ON THE MOVIE "THE COLOR OF PARADISE"

An incredible and natural movie. Director by Majid Majidi, the film was nominated 11 times, received 10 awards. This 1999 film reveals the journey of the blind child in search of Allah to her eyes. There is an important character in the movie. He is the most prominent character. Mohammed, a visually impared child who lost his mother at a young age in a never ending poverty despite working so hard. A visually impaired child without a mother who thinks no one likes his.  It is chilling to even think about it. Although there is an endless poverty that has collapsed on them, they are not tired of working in their places are mountains, gardens, flowers almost like Paradise. How sad it is to be blind and not able to see it that beauty. Imagine you have been blind since you were born and you do not know what color is  white, you do not know what the tree is like. Just think about it, you have never seen a person in your life...!!

Mohammed is our main character that we focus on. His invisible eyes, which draw the pattern of the event, and his body and senses seeking Allah who is united with his soul, the creator.

Now is the time to come to the noble incident and discuss Mohammed's role in the incident, its effects and other roles, and our other roles.

It takes place in Iran. Mohammed loses his mother at a very young age when he was already too young. They live in the village with their father, grandmother and two sisters. When the school time comes, his father takes Mohammed to the school for the blinds in Tehran. Other children in the village study at the village school, so are Mohammed's two sisters. Since all the students at Muhammed 's school are like him, all of them have more imagination. When the school has holiday and parents come to pick up their kids. Parents of all children came and picked them up, but Mohammed's father did not come, although he waited until there was nobody left at the school. Mohammed is bitter, fearful, hectic and longing, waiting for his father to come and for him to come home.

His father finally arrives but does not want to take Mohammed. He now sees Mohammed as a shame and wants to get rid of him. It is after transferring it is responsibility to someone else. Finally he comes, takes Mohammed and they go home together. His father wants to marry and is convinced himself that life will no longer pass like this. Before coming to take Mohammed, he went to ask for a girl and even spent lots of money on various items as a gift. But his father did not tell them that he had a visually impaired child. That is why he wants to reject Mohammed just so that others can accept him. Mohammed was very happy about his father's arrival. Before his father came, he heard the sound of a little sparrow that was coming from the forest. Visually impaired, not seeing but he feels very well, the bird's voice of help touches his heart and wants to help that bird. He gets up from the place where his teacher advises him not to go away and moves towards to bird's voice. He doesn't know what is in front of him either, because he doesn't know what the road he is walking looks like, because he has never seen a forest in his life. He moves in the direction of the bird's voice and finds the bird at the foot of a tree. He takes it in his hands and waits for the dangers to flee. When he feels that things are getting better in the way, he returns to his place. They are returning home with their father. Interesting events also takes place during the journey. The father of a visually impaired child who is helping the bird, whose voice he hears despite not being able to see, does not come to the aid of a turtle who turns upside down and asks for help. Mohammed's father just passes by, but as he goes, Mohammed realizes that something is wrong, as if he heard that turtle. Now I think, who is blind? Which one is important, the blindness of people's eyes or their hearts ?

Mohammed was a very thoughtful boy, simply he thought and brought gifts to his grandmother and siblings. His grandmother and sisters, who were happier with him, held his hand and passed him through the flowers. But bad news was waiting for them when they got home. His father had made the decision to leave Mohammed with a visually impaired carpenter like him, and he did. Mohammed cried, begged, said that he did not want to go, but as we said, his father wanted to get rid of him. The carpenter understood him, as he was blind, as well. After Mohammed's father was gone, the carpenter came to him while he was sitting on the log and crying. Mohammed asked him if he was looking for Allah, where he was and why he had given him blindness. They talked to each other a little bit, we can say that they were actually troubled. Finally, Mohammed said he was going to call Allah. Mohammed cries and tells the carpenter :

" Our teacher said that Allah loves blinds more because they cannot see Allah. I told him that If Allah really liked us, Allah would not have made us blind so that we don't see Allah. He said ' Allah is invisible, everywhere, you can feel Allah, you can see Allah with your fingertips.' Now until the day my hands touch Allah, I will reach Allah in everywhere and tell him everything, even all the secrets in my heart... "

It tells the reason of thankfulness for the qualities that Creator gives to human beings. It makes you empathize in a moment. The child is crying so sincerely that you want to cry with him.

While leaving Mohammed, his father sees his mother leaving the house. There is such a dialogue between them:

 - Where are you going mom? What are you trying to do to me?

 - You left me no choice.

  - You are trying to make me sad, right? I did this for his sake! So what would I do? What is my sin that I have to take care of him until to the end of my life? Why doesn't your Almighty Allah help me out of this misery? Why should I be grateful to Allah for? Is it for what Allah didn't give me? Is it for the misery I live in? Is for a blind kid? Is it for my wife who passed away? I have been patient with all this for 5 years! Do you think you did something for me? That's what I am, a poor and miserable man! I lost my dad at such a young age that I barely remember his face! Who is helping me? Who cares about me? GO! GO wherever you want!

Later, the father realized his mistake and followed his mother, took her and brought her back home. Upon this incident, he went to get Mohammed from the carpenter. He went to the carpenter and took Mohammed. Things continued to move forward, unexpectedly for Mohammed. The horse cart was pulling was also moving forward, he could not see but felt it.  When they were crossing the wooden bridge over the stream, suddenly the bridge broke, the horse and Mohammed on the horse fell into the water. His father was astonished. He saw that Mohammed was falling. He was just going to save, for a moment, the idea of getting rid of Mohammed came to life in his mind. He had two options: To rescue or to be saved. Time was limited. 5 seconds determined the death or existence of a soul. His father followed Mohammed, who was drifting in water for 5 seconds, with 2 options spinning in his brain, but he recovered and followed Mohammed, who was drifting down the stream. He jumped into the water, swam, and wanted to save Mohammed, but I guess it was too late to compensate. They also drifted across the river. When his father opened his eyes, the water washed ashore. He was on the sand and his clothes were wet. For a moment, Mohammed came to his mind and jumped, ran across the beach. He saw Mohammed was dead and it was not possible to retrieve the sand that had fallen from the hourglass. His father embraced Mohammed, crying regretfully. Just then, the storks started to fly in the sky. Perhaps the storks were running away from the evil and seeking good. And inside of Mohammed' s hand, dangling from his lifeless body, brightened and died out. Time, hope, perspective and irreversibility draw the biggest point in our lives, in our lives...

DOESN'T LIFE MEAN THE DEATH ANYWAY?
